Evil Geniuses win ESEA Season 7

The ESEA Season 7 Invite Playoffs were finally upon us with the Evil Geniuses taking on Frag Dominant. EG only needed to take two of the four maps after coming through the competition in the upper bracket, however for Frag Dominant they would need to upset EG on three maps in order to take the crown of ESEA Season 7 champions and the first prize cheque of $7,000 USD.

Frag Dominant started the match as Counter-Terrorists on de_tuscan and took the opening pistol and following save round. EG decided to gamble on the third round with an early buy, it paid off and EG went on their way building a solid foundation for the final. To their credit FD fought back and went into the break down 7:8.  Once again FD was able to take the pistol round and started to build a nice lead on EG. At one stage the lead was out to 14:9 in favor of Frag Dominant, however some nice play by Tomi "lurppis" Kovanen ensured the FD would have to earn the victory. Frag Dominant regained their composure and took the first map 16:14.

Second map de_train would act as a make or break map between the two teams after they had just slugged it out for 30 rounds on de_tuscan. A clever pistol strategy from EG saw them take the pistol round, and then demolish their opponents winning the next 6 in a row as Terrorists. FD showed once again that they were here to win and were claw back into the match, however this time EG would have nothing of it and maintained a nice lead going into the half 10:5. EG continued where they left off and took the all important pistol and were able to close out the match 16:7.

The third map would see the two teams face off on de_inferno. EG continued to put pressure on FD’s Counter-Terrorist rounds and were able to amass a 12:3 lead at the break. At 15:3 the game looked as good as over, however time and time again FD proved they had the fight in them and started to eat away at a seemingly unbeatable lead.  After a series of clutch rounds by FD it came down to the final round for EG to end the fairytale comeback and seal the deal with a nail biting 16:14 win and take home the ESEA Season 7 Invite League title and the cheque for $7,000.
